Rev. Bud Murphy’s Bio
Rev. Richard “Bud” Murphy was ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood in 1967. He has a Master of Divinity degree from St. John’s Provincial Seminary. Rev. Murphy sought and was granted laicization from his vows in 1970. He obtained a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Detroit and completed courses for a Master of Arts in Management. He married and has two adult children and two grandchildren. He worked as a counselor and business consultant in a variety of settings including private practice.
Rev. Bud became a member of the UU Congregation in Ormond Beach, Florida in 1993. He lost his wife, Helen to cancer in 2002. In 2003 began the process of becoming a Unitarian Universalist minister. He accepted a position as contract minister in 2004. He is an Associate Member of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association. He married Melodie Conroy in 2010 and served the UU Church of Ormand Beach until his retirement in 2012. He then served for three years as half-time Senior Minister in Ludington, MI. Retired he remains active as a member of the UU Church of St. Petersburg, Florida and serves as President of the Board of Unitarian Universalist Justice Florida, a state action network that lobbies the State of Florida Legislature for laws consistent with UU values and provides oversight for initiatives that promote environmental justice and fosters community resilience in areas impacted by extreme weather events.
