Good news! Rev Ben Atherton-Zeman will be holding two membership classes for those who have been attending services and getting to know who we are over the past several months. While there are no pre-requisites to attending classes, we do want those considering membership to have experienced who we are as a congregation including attending services and participating in some of our activities.
Becoming a member is a meaningful spiritual step that invites you into a covenantal relationship with our congregation. Attending membership classes will give you a better understanding of our UU history and our seven principles and allow you to get to know each other.
Membership Classes will be held after Social Hour at 12:00 p.m. on the following dates:
Sunday, December 4
Sunday, December 11
Membership Sunday will be Sunday, December 18 for those who have attended both classes, made an annual financial pledge to support our congregation and its good works, and signed the membership book. Signing the membership book is a sacred vow to uphold the principles of Unitarian Universalism.
If you are ready to take the next step, please contact Kelly Olson and let her know you will be attending membership classes. If you have questions, please contact either Vanda Sucheston Hughes or Carol Ulmer, Membership Team co-chairs, or Rev Ben at minister@uustpete.org.
Not ready to become a member?
There is no rush. If you want to learn more about Unitarian Universalism before committing to membership classes, attend a seminar on UU Basics that will help answer the following questions:
What is the difference between a covenant and a creed?
Are UUs Christian?
What are the seven principles and six sources?
Why do we embrace democracy?
The UU Basics class will be given by Rev Ben on Sunday, TBD at 12:15 p.m.
