Some Good News – and I think we need some about now.

The UU St Pete Social Justice Committee signed on to a petition to Governor DeSantis asking for COVID testing kits for farmworkers in FL. The petition was initiated by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW).
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried announced new efforts to provide COVID-19 testing for farmworkers. Beginning last week, farmworkers had access to numerous no-cost COVID-19 testing events in some of Florida’s top agricultural counties. Support for these tests is provided in part by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Florida Division of Emergency Management, and county governments.

Update: Nicholas Morales’ Killing by Collier County Sheriff’s Deputy
Thank you so much for reaching out. We have our demands to the Sheriff’s department including release of the CAM recording, an autopsy and deputy statements. CIW is working closely with the family to make sure whatever next steps are taken are ones they would like to see. The family has been very focused on finding a home for Nicolas’ child, and having his aunt move here to Immokalee to adopt him so they have been busy.
