Companionship, friendship, community - research strongly indicates what millennia of humans have surmised - companionship can make all the difference for surviving and thriving.  Having a sense of belonging is one of developmental psychology's indicators of a happy and fulfilled person.  Belonging to what?  To other people - to families, cliques, teams, tribes, peoples, Earth, Universe, God.  At the same time that we benefit in many ways from belonging , our potentials may also be affected adversely by these worldly influences.  The foundation of some religions is transcending the worldly influences - and yet almost all of them end up becoming communal - the worldly influence of companions is too important and potentially good to be dismissed.  How do we influence our potentials for becoming a valuable and valued part of the community?
