Friday Night Picnic

Friday, November 15, 2019 - 5:30pm
Location: Kitchen, Playground, Conway North Room

Location: Kitchen, Playground, Little House, Conway North Room

Friday,  - 5:00pm - 7:00pm,  Serving dinner at 6pm

Location: Kitchen, Playground, Conway North Room

For the last seven years, UUSP, in partnership with the Quakers, Food Not Bombs, and other faith based and civic groups has held a Friday evening "Picnic in the Playground" to provide a good meal for the unhoused people and the working poor in our community.

If you haven’t had a chance to participate in this valuable outreach / community builder, we invite you to share a great experience with us. Here are some of the ways you may wish to contribute:

  • Show up with a prepared dish and help serve; we start at 6 and finish by 7
  • Prepare a dish and drop it off; contact Sabine or Reggie to make arrangements
  • Help with clean up or set up
  • Help supply sustainable plates, cups and napkins

We look forward to continued success, with our interfaith partners, serving the hungry in our community.

Stone Soup Sunday

Stone Soup is UUSP's annual event supporting the work and outreach of UU's Helping People homeless ministry.

During November, we will collect pottery bowls (could be gently used or from your favorite St. Pete potter).  Please leave them in kitchen, labeled "Stone Soup."

On November 24 there will be a sneak preview prior to the Service, and a silent auction following the Service. Auction winners will then enjoy hearty soup in their newly acquired bowl. Proceeds support the Friday Night Picnic, serving ~80 people in need every week of the year. They also will enable financial support of local service providers e.g., St. Petersburg Free Clinic, Women's Shelter, DayStar and Celebrate Outreach's Tiny Homes for Homeless Veterans Project.

UUHP (Unitarian Universalists Helping People):

Monday, December 9, 2019 - 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: Front Office

UUHP (Unitarian Universalists Helping People):

Formerly the Homeless Ministry, UUHP meets at 6:00pm on the second Monday of each month in the UUSP office.

Through the generosity of our congregation, the UUHP Ministry receives from fund raisers such as Stone Soup, monthly pancake breakfasts, and share-the-plate, allowing us to donate to the Free Clinic Woman’s Shelter, Daystar, Family Resource Center (LGTBQ),  Family Promise and Celebrate Outreach. We support these local independent service providers for the economically challenged because they are proficient in how they are able to offer assistance.

Coordinating and   improving the Friday night picnic allows us to work with others in the community to help offer nourishing  meals for the food insecure

In the coming year we look forward to continuing our existing programs working on solutions to house the un-housed. Join UUHPs.
