Awaken Yoga Center (www.AwakenYogaCenter.com) is pleased to announce that it will continue to call UU St. Pete its home for 2009-2010. Since its inception on August 20, 2008, hatha yoga classes have been offered four days a week by Vandana, founder and principal hatha yoga teacher of Awaken Yoga Center.
The classes are held in beautiful Gilmour Hall overlooking Mirror Lake on Wednesdays from 6:00pm-7:30pm and Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00am-10:30am. There is also a Introduction to Yoga class for those who are totally new to yoga on Wednesdays from 7:30pm - 8:45pm. This includes six (6) consecutive Wednesday classes for $50 (10% will be donated to UU St. Pete). Pre-registration is necessary. Email Vandana at OMmommy@yahoo.com or call 727-482-4977 to pre-register.
Private and small group classes are available by appointment as well. Childcare is available for $5/child (with additional siblings being $3 each) on Saturdays (and Mondays and Fridays in the summer).
Hatha yoga (exercise yoga) is a physical discipline of Ancient Yogic Masters emphasizing connection with the breath while doing asanas (yoga poses). It is the most popular tool used by Westerners to prepare the body and mind for meditation. The ultimate goal of Awaken Yoga is to "awaken" to your true Self. Most of us are too identified with the ego which drives our actions and relationships with others. By awakening to the calmness inside you and finding that peaceful, joyous place during meditation, we begin to shift our consciousness to greater things outside of ourselves.
Awaken Yoga students are given many opportunities for selfless service (karma yoga) such as feeding the homeless and other less fortunate families, providing underwear and socks for migrant workers’ children and distributing it personally to their camps.
Classes have a $10 fee ($1 going to UU St. Pete to support its mission) except for Fridays which are by donation. Classes are open to the public and are on a drop-in basis. Please enter through the front/side entrance directly into Gilmour Hall. Parking in the UU St. Pete lot or on Mirror Lake is advised. Newcomers to yoga, accomplished yogis, and adventurous spirits are all welcomed to drop in and try it out! Your first class is free. For more information please call Vandana at 727-896-5856 or email her at OMmommy@yahoo.com. Complete class schedule available at www.AwakenYogaCenter.com. Bring your yoga mat and prepare to "inscape"... (mats, blocks and straps are available for use).
