 UUSP Kayak Outing: Weedon Island

Saturday, May 18
Weedon Island

The post-Spring weather on Saturday, May 18 will be sunny and nice, excellent for kayaking at the Weedon Island Preserve (http://weedonislandpreserve.org). The temperature will be about 74F at 9:00 am, with winds 6-12mph and the tide in flow about 1.2’ and going to 2.3’ at high tide at 12:00 noon. In other words, just about perfect. Remember to bring sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, insect repellant, a whistle, water and UU humor.

Weedon Island Preserve is located a couple miles north of UUSP, just off of Gandy Blvd before the Gandy Bridge to Tampa. The Weedon Island Preserve is a 3,190 acre natural area situated along the western shore of Tampa Bay, and located on 1800 Weedon Drive NE. St. Petersburg. It is home to a variety of native wildlife. If you’re interested in getting out in nature, getting some fresh air and exercise, and paddling around islands and through mangrove tunnels, please join us.

Let’s meet at Sweetwater Kayak Rental at 1800 Weedon Drive at 8:30-8:45am so that we can embark at 9:00am, before it gets hot. Either bring your own kayak or rent one there.
