Nursery age care is provided in Conway Hall beginning at 10:15am.

ALL CHILDREN AND YOUTH WILL BEGIN IN SERVICE then go up to their classrooms.  Children in grades K-3 will meet in their room. Children in middle grades 4-6 will meet in their room. Youth class, grades 7-12, will meet in their room.

Our annual Christmas Coffee will be after the Sunday morning service on December 17 in Gilmour Hall.

Homeless Deaths in Pinellas Co. to be Memorialized Sunday, December 17

It is estimated that more than 50 people died while experiencing homelessness in Pinellas County this past year. These persons will be remembered with dignity in a memorial service to be held Sunday, December 17 at 5:00p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 401 Fifth St. N. in downtown St. Petersburg.


The one-hour interfaith service will feature readings from the sacred scriptures of various faiths, a

Litany of Remembrance, and a candle lighting ceremony


Following the memorial, a free hot meal will be served to everyone at the service. People experiencing homelessness, service providers, advocates, community leaders and others will share a meal together to celebrate the lives of those who have died.  After dinner, people currently experiencing homelessness will receive donated back packs, blankets and ditty bags containing toiletries, blankets, knit hats, socks, and more.


In lieu of flowers, Celebrate Outreach will gratefully accept donations of non-perishable food, warm clothing (e.g., new knit caps, winter jackets, socks, etc.) and money to support the mission of Celebrate Outreach, which is a tax-exempt (a 501(C)3 nonprofit) organization. All donations are tax-deductible.


The memorial service, coordinated by Celebrate Outreach, Inc. in cooperation with Pinellas County Homeless Leadership Board, is part of the observance of National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day. The memorial is being commemorated in Pinellas County for the eleventh successive year.


Each year since 1990, on or close to the longest night of the year, the National Coalition for the Homeless has sponsored National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day to bring attention to the tragedy of homelessness and to remember our homeless neighbors who have paid the ultimate price for our nation’s failure to end homelessness. Beginning in 2005, the National Health Care for the Homeless Council and the National Consumer Advisory Board joined as co-sponsors of this meaningful national event.


Celebrate Outreach, Inc. is a partnership of St. Petersburg-area faith-based congregations and individuals committed to preventing and ending homelessness in our area through social justice, advocacy, community education and direct service. Founded in 2007, this nonpartisan, grassroots, volunteer-run tax-exempt organization serves free hot meals each weekend to hungry and homeless persons in the downtown St. Petersburg area,  conducts annual homeless persons’ memorial services and other events, and develops tiny homes for homeless veterans.

UU's Helping People: Tiny Homes for Homeless Veterans

Many members of UUSP have participated in the Friday night picnic, a project sponsored by Celebrate Outreach, an interfaith organization working to end homelessness, which UUSP is a member of.


Another Celebrate Outreach project is the "Tiny Homes for Homeless Veterans" initiative. The past month has seen significant progress with the development of a business plan by UUSP's Courtney Allen, a video introducing the Tiny Homes team and a recent interview on WMNF (links to video and interview below).

UUSP Needs and Priorities: Requesting Your Input

It’s no surprise that UUSP, like most churches, has a variety of needs to address, including programmatic, administrative, and physical site needs.  Committee heads have already begun this process by sending the Board their lists of needs and priorities. But we also need as much congregational input - YOUR INPUT - as possible. 

This is important for these reasons:

  • To make certain we identify and address the most urgent needs first, then the others over the next few years, as our budget allows.
  • To provide early planning for the Board for the 2018-19 budget. 
  • To inform and dovetail with the UUSP 3-Year Plan and Vision, which is beginning now. 

We’ve designed an easy form for you to use. You can get a paper copy form on Sunday in the Sunday Bulletin, or you can go online to our UU St Pete Google Group (as you did during our parking lot conversation) and fill out the form there. These are the three questions to consider:

  1. What needs can you identify that would benefit the church, its programs, or its members.
  2. What are your priorities for these needs?
  3. Can you estimate any costs required to address these needs?

Good news for the holidays! Yesterday, December 11, the sale of Parcel 1 to WJA finally closed and the funds were transferred to UUSP. It took all of us 16 months of discussions, Town Hall meetings, FAQs, a Straw Vote, negotiations, and a congregational vote on September 17. Thank you all for participating so thoroughly. We finally made it.


On Sunday, December 10, the Board met to approve the final documents as negotiated. The Board Negotiation Team (Linda Paul, Lori Price, and Paul Burnore), the Advisory Team (Sabine von Aulock and Howard Taylor), and UUSP Attorney Chuck Hinton, have been editing and revising documents, and negotiating with WJA for the past twelve weeks. The Board's vote on the final documents was: 5 approvals, 0 disapprovals, and 2 abstentions.


Even though Parcel 1 is now owned by WJA, they will let UUSP continue to use it as we have been until ground is broken for construction, which is estimated to be in late summer. UUSP parking in Parcels 2 & 3 will continue as usual and will be shared with WJA during weekday business hours of 8 am to 6 pm, as per our agreement  On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, however, UUSP will have 15 reserved spaces all day for church activities. Evenings and weekends will be for UUSP parking only, along with four neighboring parking lots.


Construction of UUSP’s new parking lot on Parcels 2 & 3, including resurfacing, new lighting, and landscaping, is estimated to begin in the summer, but possibly sooner. We will assemble a small UUSP team to work with WJA on the design and materials used for our environmental friendly parking lot.

Whether you don’t know which end of a screwdriver to use or you can build a home from scratch, B&G is looking for YOU!  We have various projects you can enjoy like (1) helping to find and coordinate the best contractors or (2) getting your hands dirty outside on the grounds, or handyman jobs – light painting, electrical, carpentry, etc.  (Yes, that should probably be “handyperson” but we can only carry PC so far.)

Stop by and find out what we do!  Request copies of our Minutes be emailed to you.  Join in and brag to your friends about things like a new bookshelf you helped install (provided it stays up, of course …).  Anyway, come on by and find out more!  Fame, glory, fun and more can be yours!
