Movie Night - Tootsie

To celebration and honor Women’s “Herstory" Month (in March), please join us for a screening of Tootsie in Conway Hall on Saturday, April 13 at 6:30 pm.

Tootsie is a 1982 American comedy film  directed by Sydney Pollack and starring Dustin Hoffman, with a supporting cast that includes Jessica LangeTeri GarrDabney ColemanBill MurrayCharles DurningGeorge GaynesGeena DavisDoris Belack and Pollack. The film tells the story of a talented but volatile actor, Michael Dorsey, whose reputation for being difficult forces him to adopt a new identity as a woman in order to land a job.

The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards. Roger Ebert says: '"Tootsie" is the kind of Movie with a capital M that they used to make in the 1940s, when they weren't afraid to mix up absurdity with seriousness, social comment with farce, and a little heartfelt tenderness right in there with the laughs.” What Michael learns about being a woman in the workplace still has valuable lessons for us today. How far has our society come in the 37 years since Tootsie?

The movie is a little less than two hours long. Free popcorn will be provided. BYO beverages, snacks, and pillows. A short discussion will follow.

Please consider a donation to help pay for the new wide-screen TV we use for films, presentations and podcasts. (We have $210 to go…)
