UUSP Kayak Club - Fort Desoto Park

Kayak Club Outing - Saturday, April 13, 9:30am at Ft. Desoto Park

Our next excursion will be Saturday morning, April 13, at Ft. Desoto Park and is appropriate for all skill levels. Kayak rentals are available. We’ll paddle around Mullet Key in calm waters and see lots of wildllfe. We’ll meet at Ft Desoto’s kayak rental shop, which opens at 9 am (but come early to beat the crowd) and will launch our excursion from there by 9:30 or 9:45am. We plan to be back by 11:30 am. (You’ll also get to see my just finished wood kayak!)

The weather forecast at this point is totally speculative, but I’ll send an update a few days before the outing. There are lots of other activities at Ft. Desoto: a picnic, visit the fort, see Egmont Key, biking or swimming, etc. Ft. Desoto Park charges a $5 parking fee on entry. Turn right on Anderson Drive and go 2 miles to the kayak rental site, at which we’ll launch.

Bring:

  • lf you bring your own kayak, make sure to also bring a life jacket and whistle (these are provided for those who rent a kayak)
  • Water shoes, drinking water or gatorade, sun protection (hat, sun glasses, sun screen), towel and dry clothes
  • optional:  whistle, dry bag (for cell phones, cameras, keys, wallet, etc), binoculars
  • 75 cents in quarters for 1st park entrance (automated machine only)
  • $5 at last entrance for parking fee for the day

Rentals: Check out Top Water Kayak Outpost if you’re renting. This is where we’ll meet, put in, and end.
