PASTOR’S SECOND REPORT ON THE POOR PEOPLE’S CAMPAIGN IN FLORIDA:  This past Monday, June 11, Rev. Karen Day, UUSP member Carol Ulmer, and I went to the state capitol in Tallahassee for the fifth Monday of the Poor People’s Campaign.  With send-off cheers from UUSP member Robert Alicea, we traveled with about 20 other St. Peteians on a bus provided by some of the participating unions (SEICU, Fight for Fifteen, St. Pete Adjunct Faculty, etc).  The demonstration itself:  about 125-150 people from the coalition groups involved in the PPC; lots of personal testimonies and excellent speeches; a brief blockade of a lane of traffic by the capitol building (quickly dispersed at the friendly request of the police); but no news media other than our own group’s social media efforts.  I am more encouraged by the potential influence of this coalition movement, especially adding to the justice efforts of the League of Women Voters and the ACLU, than anything I’ve seen.  Good to know that the UUA is also very involved at the national level in the U.S. Capitol.  Pastor Jack

HELP UUSP BUILD A UU-CENTERED LIBRARY in our Library Reading Room off Gilmour Hall.  By UU-Centered, we mean books about us – about Unitarianism, Universalism, UUism, UU people, UU influenced people, UU influenced books, and UU-influencing books. See the bulletin boards for our growing booklist and please add to it.  And then decide what book you can contribute or pay for (name label in your honor inside the cover).
