Hurricane Preparation

During hurricane season and when there is a threat of severe weather, please note that UUSP is located in a non-evacuation zone -- but it is also not designated as a shelter. However, even though we are not a designated shelter facility, members of our congregation are always welcome to come to our church at any time.

If you expect to stay more than a few hours, please be sure to bring food, water, and all the items recommended for storm preparedness with you as you will be responsible for taking care of yourself and your family members. And remember that we do not have showers or beds. Also, remember that utilities (water, electricity) might be out so be prepared for that possibility.

We recognize pets are also family members and they are welcome as long as they are contained in carriers or cages. Gilmour will be designated as the pet area in order to provide animal-free areas for those members who may have pet allergies.

If severe weather threatens, Rev. Jack and the Board of Trustees, working with the Buildings and Grounds Committee, will designate volunteers to open up the Church if needed. Church leadership will notify the congregation who to call to make arrangements for Church access if you are forced to evacuate and wish to stay at the Church.
